Asia's largest railway junction begins construction

On January 9, Asia's largest railway junction station - Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway's Nanjing South Station - officially enters its construction phase.

The high-speed railway's Nanjing South Station and the highway's Nanjing South Station both occupy an area of two square kilometers; and together form the largest of all stations built along the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway.

According to the design, Nanjing South Station is an elevated station with a platform on the second floor, waiting hall on the third floor, and a square transfer area on the ground floor.

In the center of the square, there are stations leading to Metro Line 1, Line 3 and Line 6. On the south side of the square there is an Airport Express park: an elevated road connecting to LukouAirport.

The highway's South Station is south of NanjingSouth Station Square. There is almost a "zero distance" transfer between the rail, bus, subway, long-distance bus and airport bus.

Experts said that after the completion of Nanjing South Station, in addition to the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, there will also be connections with the Hu-Han-Rong Railway (Shanghai - Nanjing - Hefei - Wuhan - Chongqing - Chengdu), Ning-An Railway (Nanjing - Wuhu - Anqing) and Ning-Hang Railway (Nanjing - Hangzhou), making Nanjing the largest transportation hub in east China.
