International Wine Brewers Eye on Chinese Market

The current Chinese annual grape wine consumption is 0.38L per person, only 1/16 of that internationally. According to the report of global authority IWSC, the growth of Chinese annual consumption of grape wine will reach above 20%. Lately, hundreds of wine brewers from over ten countries and regions such as France, Italy, Spain and Chile enthusiastically participated in 2008 China (Shanghai) International Wine Expo, which was opened in Shanghaimart, to try to gain more market shares in Chinese wine market.

As estimated by IWSC researcher, Chinese consumption of grape wine is expected to increase by 70% during 2006 to 2011, which is 6.5 times faster than average level worldwide. By 2012, China is possibly to become the eighth largest consumption country of grape wine across the world
